Visa / World Cup

The Challenge

No other sporting event captures the world's imagination like the FIFA World Cup™. Ever since the first tentative competition in Uruguay in 1930, FIFA's flagship has constantly grown in popularity and prestige. (www.fifa.com). In 2010 the FIFA World Cup was held in South Africa.

Visa, the multinational global payments company, required a user friendly unattended retail and banking solution, functions that included dispensing prepaid Visa debit cards and the acceptance of all card associations.

The Solution

Kinektek deployed kiosks in all the stadiums and fan parks during the 2010 FIFA World Cup for Visa, the kiosks accepted card payments from all card associations including Mastercard and Amex, and dispensed prepaid Visa debit cards

The Kinektek solution performed extremely well and enabled Visa to create exclusive Visa card usage zones inside the stadiums and fan parks. The kiosks were subsequently deployed into shopping centres to dispense gift cards after World Cup was over

The Challenge

DStv is MultiChoice's digital satellite TV service in Sub-Saharan Africa. DStv has over 8 million subscribers with the majority being in South Africa and Nigeria, with subscription payments processed on a daily basis across their vast market segments.

DStv required an ergonomic, easy to use and instant payments system to help subscribers make payments outside of retail hours, and they needed to offer non internet payment options that provided security, speed and reliability.

The Solution

Kinektek deployed their software platform and 200 kiosks in DSTV branches and agencies countrywide. The primary function was to collect DSTV and Box Office subscription payments. Kiosks only accepted card payments and Terminals were deployed in metropolitan and rural areas. Initially assistants were deployed to help customers onboard the new system for the first three months

The solution resulted in average transaction volumes of 50 - 150 transactions per kiosk per day peaking at over 300 transactions per day. Within 6 months over 90% of payments were taking place over the terminals.
